This story began with a message from a serviceman in the Mykolaiv region. He asked for help after finding an injured Eurasian hobby that needed urgent care. The bird was diagnosed with a fractured radius and a bruised ulna. To give him a chance to recover, he was taken first to Mykolaiv and from there to Lviv, to the Free Wings centre.Despite the care he received, the injury proved too severe. Because of the damage to his wing, the hobby will never fly properly again and cannot go back to the wild. Short flights are all that will remain to him.But rescue does not always mean a return to the wild.Sometimes saving a bird means giving him a safe place, the care he needs, and the chance to live out his life without pain and without constant danger. Thanks to the serviceman who did not walk past, and to the people who helped move the bird from the Mykolaiv region to Lviv, this hobby was given exactly that chance. At Free Wings we do not rescue only the birds we can release. We give a chance to every bird that needs help.
